About

Focusing purely on light, composition and negative space, Nathan photographs inanimate objects which are found in everyday environments as they are, unaltered, unarranged, yet yield a sense of intrigue and interest about the narrative or to elicit an emotional response in the viewer.

My choice of medium is digital photography because it is a powerful tool for visual storytelling; offering me direct engagement with the real-world, the ability to frame and freeze an everyday moment or object which is banal in a manner to challenge perception, stimulate thought.

The intent of my images is to allow people to see the mundane with a fresh set of eyes, to evoke a renewed sense of interest and intrigue about everyday objects - to open a window into a multi-layered narrative beyond what people can actually see within a single picture at a first glance.

My images, combined with a carefully constructed title, invite people to see beyond the novel - to tap into their logical, imaginative or intellectual state of mind to unlock the hidden narrative within a single frame and transform a passive viewing experience into an active visual dialogue.
